Campaign Issues

  • Lack of public outreach caused by many issues including motivation, Audio/Visual system inexperience and hardware.
  • Lack of live online and interactive Zoom for live interactive meeting broadcasts. The public is deprived of ongoing matters when they are happening. The refusal to move meeting away from the county commission meeting time conflict is ill advised.
  • Lack of staff education and (technology) experience for creating social media affects public education which creates apathy.
  • Continued lack of transparency between the management staff and the board on many issues hinders oversight and guidance.
  • Limited reporting of and corrective action on continued employee turnover for the last 4 years has affected growth.
  • Need of an outside professional to objectively interview all the staff bottom to top on employment issues has not been supported by staff or one board member.
  • The need for more comprehensive Short - Long Range Planning in technical staff, operations training, capital improvement, area expansion, grant research and more. The strategic plan (overdue) was shallow and contained insufficient measurement actions.
  • More knowledge offered to  the tax-paying public about this district regarding why they exist, what they achieve,  how they achieve it and why they are critical to quality of health and life has been late coming and inadequate.
  • Ignorance of any subject causes apathy by those who don’t know or understand. This apathy causes a lack of support of the district and can affect its existence.

REASON FOR FILING FOR ELECTION

I have been involved, almost embedded in Mosquito Control for over 4 years. My conviction is that the Mosquito Control District is actually a small business, that was created to serve the residents of IRC for a critical health and welfare function. As such, it requires the same attributes of strong fiscal discipline, comprehensive planning for growth, both in population and area served, improved return on taxpayer investment, creating significant transparency and definitely more community outreach.

The MCD Board is charged with oversight and guidance of the staff through the director. This district is about science and research (entomology), using the latest technology, (as it becomes available) in order to achieve its mission and goals. To that end it must, replace staff attrition,  increase and improve the staff and educate the residents and voters so they may understand and care about that mission.  The reasons are very clear!

  • I want to have a more direct effect on oversight and guidance as a board member rather than as a resident activist.
  • I want to support the mission and goals of the district, working with the other incumbent board members, ethically, respectfully and objectively.
  • I want to ensure that all three board seats work to common goals and address issues factually and objectively, in a timely manner.
  •  I want to influence the oversight and guidance in areas of technology employee relations, ethics, transparency and public community outreach.
  • I want to finally influence, guide and drastically improve audio, video, public access and all forms of social media to inform and educate the public about the district.
  • I want to guide the strengthening of short and long range planning for personnel, technology, operations, capital improvement and growth.
